Submission Guidelines

FACE is an independent quarterly magazine devoted to Aboriginal arts and culture in the 21st century. FACE reflects the emergence of vibrant cultural initiatives in Aboriginal communities across Canada, in art, literature, film, music, and the science and politics of land management, food sovereignty and self-governance.

The FACE audience consists of aboriginal readers (as well as non-aboriginal readers) with a strong interest in Aboriginal cultural practices. This audience includes students, educators, cultural practitioners, administrators, cultural leaders and the interested public.

FACE publishes: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, interviews, articles, photographs, graphics, illustrations as well as comics.

Before submitting to FACE you should read an issue to get a sense of the quality and style of work we publish.

FACE accepts submissions by e-mail: <> or <>. Submissions can be single spaced for poetry or double spaced for everything else. Every page must include author’s or artist’s name, address, e-mail address and the page number.

Submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter which includes author/artist’s contact information, title of submission, genre, word count, and a biography of no more than 50 words. A ‘head & shoulders’ high density photograph of the author or artist is recommended.

Photographs, graphics, illustrations and comics can be either e-mailed or mailed to Randy Fred, Publisher, 530 Cadogan Street, Nanaimo BC V9S 1T4. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope if you wish your material returned.

Simultaneous and multiple submissions are accepted, but make a note in your cover letter, and please inform us if your material is accepted elsewhere.

We buy first North American Serial rights for original work, and second or third serial rights for previously published work (including material published on the internet).
